On Sunday, Iran-backed Houthi rebels launched a drone attack in Jordan, killing three American soldiers. This attack has increased the political pressure on US President Joe Biden to start a war against Iran. Biden has avoided taking any direct action against Iran because his administration does not want another front in the Israel-Hamas war to open.
Experts say that the Biden administration may, in response, target Iranian forces outside Iran or even attack Iranian forces inside Iran. He says that or the administration can simply intensify attacks against Iran-backed Houthi rebels by being more cautious.
US troops in the Middle East have been attacked more than 150 times by Iran-backed rebels in Iraq, Syria, Jordan and off the coast of Yemen since the Israel-Hamas war began in October. But till Sunday, not a single American soldier had died in these attacks.
On Sunday, the Houthis attacked a military post called Tower 22 near Jordan’s northeastern border with Syria, killing three soldiers and injuring several.
Responding to this attack, US President Joe Biden said that America will respond to this attack. However, he did not give more information about this.
Biden administration on target of opposition regarding attack
The opposition Republican Party is cornering the Biden administration regarding this attack. The opposition has alleged that the Biden administration has made the condition of American forces such that they are just waiting for a drone or missile to come and destroy their defense base. The opposition says that that day also came on Sunday when soldiers were killed in a unilateral drone attack. He says that Biden should attack Iran in response.
Republican US Senator Tom Cotton said, ‘The Biden administration has left our soldiers as easy prey. In response to these attacks, devastating retaliatory action should be taken only and only against Iran’s terrorist forces in Iran and the entire Middle East.
Representative Mike Rogers, a Republican who leads the US military oversight committee in the House of Representatives, the lower house of the US Parliament, also said the government should take action against Iran.
“Now is the time for President Biden to hold the terrorist Iranian regime and their extremist proxies to account for their attacks,” Rogers said.
At the same time, former President Donald Trump said regarding the attacks that the attacks are a result of Biden’s weakness and surrender.

Ruling Democratic Party MP Barbara Lee renewed calls for a ceasefire in Israel, saying, ‘As we see, this is getting out of control. Now this is turning into a regional war and unfortunately our soldiers are suffering losses due to this.
Democratic Congressman Seth Moulton urged against Republican calls for war, saying that war would be a worse decision under any circumstances.
Moulton said, ‘To those calling for war with Iran, I would like to say that you are speaking the language of the enemy. I want you to send your sons and daughters to fight.
America will get trapped in a big war if it attacks Iran
Experts have warned that if America attacks Iranian forces inside Iran, Iran will respond strongly and America could get trapped in war in the Middle East.
Charles Lister of the Washington-based Middle East Institute told news agency Reuters that the US could launch major action against Iran-backed groups in Iraq or Syria in response to the attack.
He said, ‘What happened on Sunday morning was completely opposite to the actions taken by Iran’s proxies in the last two to three months. But despite so many provocations to attack Iran, I do not think that this administration will do anything like that.
An American defense official said on the condition of anonymity, ‘Unless America is completely prepared for war, what will we gain by attacking Iran.’
