PM Modi Speech in US Congress: On his visit to the US, Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed a joint meeting of the US Congress today. The spirit of democracy, inclusiveness and stability defines us. India is developing while being responsible for itself. Earth is our mother and we are her children. Indian culture deeply respects the environment and our planet.
Today in modern India women are leading us towards a better future. India’s approach is not just development that benefits women. It is about women led development where women lead the journey of progress. Coming out of a simple tribal background, a woman became the head of our nation.
Our vision is ‘Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas, Sabka Vishwas, Sabka Prayas’. We are focusing on infrastructure development.
– We have delivered almost 14 million homes to provide shelter to more than 150 million people, which is almost 6 times the population of Australia.
– We have more than 2,500 political parties. There are about 20 different parties ruling in different states of India. We have 22 official languages and thousands of dialects, yet we speak with one voice.
When I went to America for the first time as Prime Minister, India was the 10th largest economy in the world. Today India is the 5th largest economy. India will soon be the third largest economy. We are not only getting bigger but also growing faster.
Last year India celebrated the completion of 75 years of independence. Every milestone is important but this one was special.
We celebrated a remarkable journey of 75 years of our independence after thousands of years of foreign rule in one form or the other. It was not just a celebration of democracy but also of diversity.
Democracy is one of our sacred and shared values. One thing has been clear throughout history that democracy is a spirit that supports equality and dignity.
Democracy is an idea that welcomes debate and discussion. Democracy is a culture that gives wings to thought and expression. India has been blessed with such values since ancient times. India is the mother of democracy.
