2. Diversity is a natural way of life in India. Today the world wants to know more and more about India. I can see that curiosity in this House as well. We are honored to have welcomed more than 100 members of the US Congress to India over the past decade. Everyone wants to understand India’s development, democracy and diversity. Everyone wants to know what India is doing and how it is doing.
3. PM Modi said that we have more than 2,500 political parties. There are about 20 different parties ruling in different states of India. We have 22 official languages and thousands of dialects, yet we speak with one voice.
4. Over the past nine years, one billion people have had a unique digital biometric identity linked to their bank accounts and mobile phones. This digital public infrastructure is helping us to reach citizens with financial assistance within seconds. 850 million people receive direct financial transfers into their accounts. Thrice a year, more than 100 million farmers received assistance in their bank accounts at the click of a button.
5. Democracy is an idea that welcomes debate and discussion. Democracy is a culture that gives wings to thought and expression. India has been blessed with such values since time immemorial in the development of democratic spirit. India is the mother of democracy… Now America is the oldest and India is the biggest democracy. Our partnership augurs well for the future of democracy.
6. PM Modi said that the founding of America was inspired by people with a similar vision. Throughout your history, you have embraced people from around the world and you have made them equal partners in the American dream. There are millions of people here who have their roots in India, some of them sitting proudly in this room and one behind me. He specifically mentioned Kamala Harris.
7. PM Modi said that I can understand the debate of ideas and ideology. But I am glad to see that you have come together to celebrate the relationship between two great democracies – India and the United States of America.
8. Our vision is ‘Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas, Sabka Vishwas, Sabka Prayas’… We are focusing on infrastructure development. We have delivered almost 40 million homes to provide shelter for more than 150 million people, which is almost 6 times the population of Australia. We run a national health insurance program that ensures free medical treatment for approximately 500 million people.
9.PM Modi said that even after more than a decade after the 9/11 attacks and 26/11 attacks in Mumbai, fundamentalism and terrorism still remain a serious threat to the whole world. These ideologies keep taking new identities and new forms but their intentions remain the same. Terrorism is the enemy of humanity and there can be no ifs and buts in dealing with it. We have to overcome all such forces sponsoring and exporting terror.
10. PM Modi said that we come from different circumstances and history but we are united by a common vision and a common destiny. When our partnership moves forward, economic resilience grows, innovation soars, science flourishes, knowledge expands, humanity benefits, our seas and skies are protected, democracies brighter and the world a better place. This is the mission of our partnership, our calling for this century.
