This shows that even in the modern and developed world, people have to struggle even to get food. Let us tell you that this report has been issued by the United Nations. Apart from this, it has been said that there is sufficient amount of food available for people to eat in the world. But people throw away food.

A data has been released by the United Nations. This report has been named ‘Food Waste Index Report 2024’. However, these figures are being reported for the year 2022. It has been said in this report that in the year 2022, 1.05 billion tonnes of food will be wasted worldwide. According to the report, no country is less in wastage of food. Be it a rich country or a poor country, everyone is busy wasting food. However, the report says that village people waste less food, whereas city people are wasting more food. The reason behind this is that the village people do not eat much food at one go. Apart from this, they feed the leftover food to their pets.

84 lakh crore grains wasted

The United Nations has said in its report that food worth 1 trillion dollars will be wasted in the year 2022. If we look at it in Indian rupees, it is equal to about Rs 84 lakh crore. This food was equivalent to about 1.05 billion tonnes in that year. This means that there was 19 percent of the total food available for people to eat. Not only this, 60 percent i.e. 631 million tonnes of food was wasted by the families. Apart from this, 29 crore tonnes of food was wasted by food service. At the same time, 13 crore tonnes of food was wasted by the retail sector.

Average 79 kg food waste

According to the United Nations report, on an average every person across the world will waste 79 kg of food in the year 2022. At the same time, poor countries have wasted only 7 kg less food on average than rich countries. This means that in poor countries an average person has wasted 72 kg of food grains. Let us tell you that this food is being wasted at a time when more than 78.3 crore people around the world are forced to sleep hungry. At the same time, 1/3 percent of the world’s people may face food security crisis in the coming days.
