The Union Home Ministry has announced to give Gallantry Medal on the occasion of Republic Day to the then ADG Zone Meerut Prashant Kumar and SSP Meerut Manzil Saini, who were part of the team that rescued Delhi’s Dr. Shrikant Gaur from the clutches of kidnappers in Meerut. Prashant Kumar has been awarded the President’s Gallantry Medal for the fourth time. Apart from this, he has also received 15 other medals and commendation discs. Apart from this, seven policemen will be given President’s Police Medal for excellent services and 74 will be given President’s Police Medal for meritorious services.

Let us tell you that on July 6, 2017, Dr. Srikant, who had booked an Ola cab from Preet Vihar, Delhi, was kidnapped by miscreants, after which he was kept hostage in Meerut. The miscreants had demanded a ransom of Rs 5 crore. Delhi Police, after searching the location of the kidnappers, raided Partapur in Meerut and rescued them after an encounter. During this time, senior Meerut police officers ADG Zone Prashant Kumar and SSP Manzil Saini were present. Delhi and Meerut police took joint action and arrested four miscreants. 232 officers and employees of the Prison Department will be honored on Republic Day by giving them appreciation marks, commendation marks and appreciation certificates.
