Pakistan’s Finance Minister Ishaq Dar slapped a journalist for asking questions about the current situation in the country and the IMF loan waiver.

The video of Finance Minister Ishaq Dar slapping a reporter on live camera is going viral on social media. The reporter has also claimed that the minister slapped him and he also ordered his security men to teach the journalist a lesson.

Ishaq Dar

According to Pakistani website Business Today, Finance Minister Ishaq Dar was leaving after addressing the National Assembly session, when Shahid Qureshi, an economic journalist working for a private TV channel, asked him a question about the IMF deal.

It is seen in the viral video that the Finance Minister is coming down the stairs of a building and going to the basement car parking. During this, a journalist started asking him questions.

In the viral video, the journalist asks Ishaq Dar if he is ready to talk today? To this Dar replies that he has just come after talking in the National Assembly. The journalist then asked about the progress regarding the stalled IMF tranche.

Ishaq Dar did not respond to this. The journalist continued his talk and said why this failure is happening? To this Ishaq Dar said, ‘Because people like you are in the system.’

Hearing the allegation of the Finance Minister, journalist Qureshi said that journalists are not a part of the system, rather they only ask questions. After this Ishaq Dar lost his temper and said what do you want? Saying this he went very close to the journalist and slapped him.

However, in this video only Ishaq Dar can be seen coming closer to the journalist. After slapping Ishaq Dar said ‘fear of God’. At the end of the video, he is asking the security personnel to snatch the phone from the journalist and throw it away.

The journalist has released another video claiming that Dar’s security personnel caught him and beat him up after the incident. After this, the Parliamentary Reporters Association has condemned the incident.

The PRA demanded an apology from the Finance Minister to the reporter and stressed that such aggressive behavior should not be repeated in future. The association also urged National Assembly Speaker Raja Parvez Ashraf to take cognizance of the incident.
