Ranchi:

The crops of dynasty, heritage, family and kinship have been flourishing in the electoral politics of Jharkhand. No party is an exception in this matter. “Family factor” will be effective on many seats in this Lok Sabha election also.

To date, the biggest family in Jharkhand politics is the Soren family. Jharkhand Mukti Morcha chief Shibu Soren has been an eight-time MP from Dumka seat of the state and this time there is a possibility of a close fight in the name of family and heritage in the electoral field here.

This time, BJP has fielded Sita Soren, elder daughter-in-law of Shibu Soren and three-time MLA from Jama constituency, as its candidate. He is the late eldest son of Shibu Soren. Durga is Soren’s wife and is seeking people’s support in the election field in the name of her legacy. Durga Soren was a two-time MLA from Jama region and was counted among the leaders who expanded the political status of JMM. This is the first time that the feud within the Soren family has reached the election arena. Sita Soren has vocally accused herself of injustice within the family.

In such a situation, Shibu Soren’s jailed son, former CM Hemant Soren or his wife Kalpana Soren can contest from Jharkhand Mukti Morcha. The counter strategy from JMM’s side could also be that despite being unwell, Shibu Soren himself comes forward to lead the election front. At present, all the options are being discussed within the party.

Shibu Soren had lost this seat to BJP candidate Sunil Soren in the 2019 elections, but the Soren family still considers it as their traditional seat. Shibu Soren had fielded his wife Roop Soren as a JMM candidate here in the 1999 elections, but she had to face defeat. Shibu Soren’s younger son Basant Soren is the MLA of Dumka Sadar assembly constituency.

Hazaribagh is the second Lok Sabha seat after Dumka, where this time there will be a direct fight between family and heritage. BJP candidate Manish Jaiswal and Congress candidate Jaiprakash Bhai Patel both entered politics carrying their father’s legacy.

Manish Jaiswal’s father Brajkishore Jaiswal was one of the prominent leaders of Congress and Jharkhand Vikas Morcha during his time. He has been the Chairman of Hazaribagh Municipality and District Council several times. He also contested elections several times from Hazaribagh Assembly seat, but he could never become an MLA. Later, his son Manish Jaiswal was elected MLA from Hazaribagh seat for two consecutive terms and is now contesting parliamentary elections for the first time.

On the other hand, Congress candidate Jaiprakash Bhai Patel is in memory of his late father. Based on the political legacy of Teklal Mahato, he became MLA thrice from Mandu Assembly seat and is now contesting in the Lok Sabha elections. Jayaprakash Patel has recently left BJP and joined Congress and the reason behind this he has given in the press conference is that while being in BJP, he was not able to implement the legacy and thinking of his father Teklal Mahato. Teklal Mahato was a five-time MLA from Mandu region and once MP from Giridih. Teklal Mahato had also contested elections twice from Hazaribagh parliamentary seat, but he was not successful. In the by-election held after his sudden demise, his son Jaiprakash Patel became MLA for the first time. Interestingly, Jaiprakash Patel’s father-in-law and Tundi area MLA Mathura Mahato is a possible candidate of JMM from the neighboring Giridih seat.

Geeta Koda, BJP candidate from Singhbhum seat, entered politics because of her husband Madhu Koda. Madhu Koda has been the CM of Jharkhand and cannot contest any election at present due to being convicted by the court.

Kalicharan Munda, whom Congress has made its candidate from Khunti Lok Sabha seat, is the veteran Congress leader of his time, Late. T. is the son of Muchirai Munda. T. Muchirai Munda was elected MLA from Khunti region several times. He was also a minister in Bihar government. Interestingly, brother Neelkanth Singh Munda, brother of Congress candidate Kalicharan Munda, is the BJP MLA from Khunti assembly seat. Apparently, both the brothers will be seen asking for votes for two different parties.

Jharkhand Mukti Morcha will once again field sitting MP Vijay Hansda as its candidate for Rajmahal seat. He also made a foray into politics thanks to the legacy of his father, the late Thomas Hansda. Thomas Hansda had been a Congress MLA and MP from this area.

BJP candidate from Koderma seat and Union Minister of State for Education Annapurna Devi also came into politics for the first time to take up the legacy of her husband Ramesh Yadav after his death. She was elected MLA several times from Koderma constituency. She reached Parliament for the first time in 2019 and once again the party has expressed confidence in her here. It is considered certain that CPI(ML)’s Vinod Singh will be made the candidate by the India Alliance on this seat. He is currently the MLA from Bagodar seat and his entry into politics was after the murder of his father Mahendra Singh. Mahendra Singh had been MLA from Bagodar several times.

This time the name of MLA Deepika Pandey is being discussed for the Congress candidature from Godda region. She is currently the MLA of Mahagama assembly constituency. His father-in-law Avadh Bihari Singh had been MLA from this seat several times and also a minister in the Bihar government.

NDA’s sitting MP and AJSU Party’s Chandraprakash Chaudhary is sure to be the candidate from Giridih seat. His wife Sunita Chaudhary is MLA from Ramgarh seat and his brother Roshanlal Chaudhary has contested the assembly elections several times from Barkagaon seat.
