In match number-8 of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024, Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) defeated Mumbai Indians (MI) by 31 runs. In this match played on March 27 (Wednesday), Sunrisers Hyderabad had scored a historic score of 277 runs for three wickets. In reply, Mumbai Indians team reached 246 runs for five wickets. This was Mumbai’s second consecutive defeat in the current season. Earlier, Mumbai was also defeated by Gujarat Titans (GT) by six runs.
Mumbai Indians captain Hardik Pandya disappointed a lot in the match against Sunrisers Hyderabad. Along with bowling and batting, Hardik could not leave his mark in captaincy also. While bowling, Hardik took only one wicket, while with the bat he could score 24 runs. Some of Hardik’s decisions as captain were also surprising.

1. Hardik Pandya started the bowling with 17 year old fast bowler Quena Mafaka. Quena, playing his debut IPL match, gave away 28 runs in the first two overs. Mafaka looked helpless against an experienced player like Travis Head. Kwena Mafaka spent 66 runs on his IPL debut. This was the most expensive bowling by a bowler on IPL debut.
2. Sunrisers Hyderabad had scored more than 170 runs in the first 12 overs. The surprising thing is that Mumbai Indians’ best bowler Jasprit Bumrah had bowled only one over till then. Bumrah bowled the remaining three overs when the Sunrisers team had piled up runs on the scoreboard.
3. Hardik Pandya bowled the last over of Sunrisers Hyderabad’s innings to inexperienced bowler Shams Mulani. Whereas experienced spinner Piyush Chawla had two overs left. Left arm spinner Mulani gave away 21 runs in that over.
4. In the match against Gujarat Titans, Mumbai Indians had given a chance to Dewald Brevis as an impact player. Brewis played a good innings in that match. However, Brevis did not get a chance in this match. Romaria Shepherd was tried in the seventh position as an impact player in place of Brewis, although by then the game was out of Mumbai’s hands.
5. Hardik Pandya’s batting also remained lackluster. Hardik had scored 11 runs in the first 4 balls, but after that he scored 13 runs in 16 balls. Mumbai Indians’ momentum deteriorated due to Pandya’s slow batting. Mumbai, which was once dreaming of chasing the target, lost the match by 31 runs.
