HighLights

  1. Offices will open even on holidays for the convenience of consumers
  2. 15 percent surcharge will have to be paid from April 1
  3. Revenue of about Rs 460 crore was received including taxes on all items.

Bhopal News: Navdunia Representative, Bhopal. There are three days left for the current financial year to end. In such a situation, the Municipal Corporation officials are emphasizing on collecting maximum revenue. For this, ward and general offices will be opened even on holidays. However, this time the revenue collection has been less than the last financial year. Whereas in the current financial year, a target was set to collect Rs 600 crore from property tax, water tax and solid waste charges and other taxes.

Let us tell you that in the year 2022-23, the Municipal Corporation had received a revenue of Rs 498 crore. Encouraged by this, the Municipal Corporation officials had set a target of collecting 20 percent more i.e. around Rs 600 crore this time. Which does not seem to be completed before March 31, 2024. According to the information, now the Municipal Corporation has received a revenue of about Rs 460 crore including taxes on all items. In such a situation, if the target is to be met, then Rs 140 crore will have to be recovered in the remaining three days. To achieve the previous target also, Rs 38 crore will have to be collected in three days.

Offices will open even on holidays

To meet the target of revenue collection and for the convenience of tax payers, corporation offices will be opened on holidays till March 31. Let us tell you that the festival of Good Friday is on 29th and Rangpanchami is on 30th April. Whereas 31st April is Sunday. But these days officers and employees will be present in the corporation offices for tax collection.

15 percent surcharge will have to be paid from April 1

There are three days left for the end of the current financial year. If the taxpayer does not deposit his property tax within this deadline, then the 50 percent exemption available on his own residence will be lost. At the same time, property owners will have to pay double the tax from April 1, 2024. Those who have not paid the outstanding property tax, water tax and solid waste charges on other properties will also have to pay a surcharge of 15 percent along with the current dues.

Therefore lagging behind the recovery target

Let us tell you that in the last financial year the Municipal Corporation Commissioner was KVS Choudhary. He was also continuously active in video conferencing to hold meetings with the revenue staff. But he was transferred six months ago in this financial year. When the new Commissioner Frank Noble came, it took time for him to understand. The officials took advantage of this and continued to be negligent in their work. Meanwhile, encroachment action was taken in Bhadbhada. The corporation staff remained here for about 10 days. Then even in the Sambal scam, the zonal officers kept trying to save themselves. Due to which their attention remained less in revenue collection. After the transfer of Frank Noble, Harendra Narayan was handed over the command of the corporation. But he had only 20 days to complete the target.
