Prime Minister Narendra Modi achieved an approval rating of 75 percent in February, while assuming his job as Prime Minister, it was 65 percent in September 2023 (the last wave). This figure has been revealed in the Ipsos Indiabus PM Approval Rating Survey.

Interestingly, some cities and clusters gave extremely high ratings to PM Modi for his performance as PM – North Zone (92 per cent), East Zone (84 per cent) and West Zone (80 per cent); Tier 1 (84 per cent), Tier 3 (80 per cent) cities; 45+ age group (79 percent), 18-30 years (75 percent), 31-45 years (71 percent); Sector B (77 percent), Sector A (75 percent), Sector C (71 percent); Women (75 percent), Men (74 percent), Parents/Housewives (78 percent), Employed part-time/full-time (74 percent) etc.

The survey recorded slightly lower ratings among metros (64 per cent), tier 2 cities (62 per cent) and the self-employed (59 per cent). The lowest rating came from the southern region of the country (35 percent).

Commenting on the survey findings, Parijat Chakraborty, Ipsos India Country Service Line Leader – Public Affairs, Corporate Reputation, ESG and CSR, said, “Some of the major initiatives like the inauguration of the Ram temple in Ayodhya (92 per cent) have high approval ratings in the northern region validating this. temple in the UAE, taking a stance on global issues independent of the influence of any Western power, initiatives in space, successfully hosting the G20 summit in India and promoting Make in India, all helped the Prime Minister’s approval rating. How has the Modi government performed in various sectors?

The survey shows that the areas where the Modi government has performed well are mainly in the fields of education, sanitation and hygiene and health care system. In other areas the government has failed, but it has not failed.

The scores given by the respondents were – pollution and environment (56 per cent), poverty (45 per cent), inflation (44 per cent), unemployment (43 per cent) and corruption (42 per cent).
