Janjgir – Champa. This year, the District Cooperative Central Bank had distributed loans worth Rs 1 billion 88 crore without interest to 43 thousand farmers of the district. Loans were recovered from farmers during the purchase of paddy under support price. In which loans worth Rs 1 billion 71 crore have been recovered from the farmers of the district through committees, which is 91 percent of the target. In this way, farmers have repaid the loan by selling 57 lakh quintals of paddy. Whereas a loan of Rs 17 crore is yet to be recovered from the farmers.

Every year, through its branches, District Cooperative Bank provides loans to farmers for farming at zero percent interest rate. In this financial year 2023-24, the District Cooperative Central Bank had achieved the target of distributing loans of Rs 1 billion 88 crore, under which loans were distributed to more than 43 thousand farmers at zero percent interest rate. During the purchase of paddy under support price, it was recovered from the farmers through linking. Out of the loans distributed in this financial year, Rs 1 billion 71 crore has been recovered from the farmers. Whereas a loan of Rs 17 crore is yet to be recovered.

Now only two days are left for paddy procurement and paddy is yet to be purchased from about 14 thousand farmers. In such a situation, bank officials may have to work hard to recover loans from the remaining farmers. However, the nodal officer of the bank says that the recovery of the remaining amount will also be completed. In fact, earlier, after deducting a small amount of licking amount, the entire amount of paddy was given to the farmers, due to which the bank employees used to keep visiting the farmers throughout the year for recovery. But this system has changed in the last four years due to which 100 percent loan is recovered from the farmers every year.

Till now 14 thousand farmers have not sold paddy

Paddy procurement is also almost in its final stage now, only two days are left. So far, more than 57 lakh 77 thousand quintals of paddy has been purchased from 1 lakh 8 thousand 785 farmers out of 1 lakh 22 thousand farmers registered in 129 centers of the district. But there are still 14 thousand farmers left to sell paddy. According to departmental officials, 100 percent paddy is not procured from farmers every year. Some farmers are left with paddy to sell. In such a situation, paddy is still arriving at the centres.
