Indore Mandi Bhav: Bharat brand masoor dal soon on retail counter, decline in gram prices due to decrease in demand.

After starting the retail sale of wheat flour, rice and gram dal under the Bharat brand name, the Central Government has now decided to include lentils in this list. In view of the upcoming general elections and rising food inflation, the government is making every possible effort to increase the supply and availability of food products.

Chana dal is being retailed at a concessional price of Rs 60 per kg through central agencies NAFED, NCCF and Kendriya Bhandar. At the same time, the price of flour has been fixed at Rs 27.50 per kg and the price of rice has been fixed at Rs 29 per kg. The retail market price of branded masoor dal is hovering around Rs 100 per kg. The price of Bharat brand masoor dal is likely to be fixed at Rs 89 per kg. Its sale is expected to start soon at the retail outlets of central agencies.

According to senior official sources, during the initial phase, 25 thousand tonnes of lentils will be processed and packed by NAFED and NCCF and then it will be made available to the common people through central stores spread across the country. Its preparation is almost complete and like chana dal, masoor dal will also be available to the consumers in a pack of one kg.

The sale of Bharat brand chana dal started from July 17, 2023 and the price of its one kg pack was fixed at Rs 60. The government has a huge stock of whole gram, hence there is no difficulty in ensuring ample availability of gram dal. Common consumers are also liking it a lot. Now the government is hopeful of getting good success in the sale of lentils also.

Apart from government agencies, chana dal is also available at some other places including Reliance stores. The same policy can be adopted in the sale of lentils also. Like gram, the government also has a good stock of lentils. Here, due to good demand for lentils in the open markets, prices are being said to be strong. There was a decline in the prices of local gram due to weak procurement. The gram price dropped to Rs 5900-5950 per quintal. Dollar gram in container increased to Rs 40/42 12100, 42/44 11900, 44/46 11700, 58/60 10200, 60/62 10100, 62/64 10000 rupees per quintal.
