A policeman riding a scooter chased a student and pulled her hair during a protest against the allotment of Agricultural University land for the construction of Telangana High Court building in Hyderabad. This video went viral on Wednesday. It is seen in the video that two female policemen riding on a scooter are chasing a girl protestor and the female policeman sitting behind is pulling her by her hair, due to which the girl falls down and starts crying in pain.

The incident occurred during a protest by a student group against the allotment of university land for the construction of the High Court on the campus of Professor Jaishankar Telangana State Agricultural University. This video spread anger among the people. The opposition Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) and BJP have condemned the incident and demanded immediate action against the policemen involved. Cyberabad Police has ordered an investigation into the incident.

Police said that as per their information, the incident took place during a protest at the Agricultural University in Rajendranagar here today. University students and others are protesting against the allotment of university land for the construction of a new High Court building. Police said that during the demonstration, some protesters started running away when the police were trying to take them into preventive custody. However, this matter needs to be investigated. It appears that the incident occurred when the female policemen tried to chase them, he said. Regarding the identity of the victim woman, the police said that this incident had come to their notice some time ago and the matter would be investigated.

BRS MLA demands action

BRS leader K. Kavita has condemned the incident and urged the Human Rights Commission to take prompt and strict action against those involved. The MLC posted on Twitter, “The recent incident involving the Telangana Police is extremely worrying and absolutely unacceptable. Dragging a peaceful student protestor and subjecting the protestor to indecent assault raises serious questions on the need for such aggressive tactics by the police. Such arrogant behaviour. Telangana Police should tender an unconditional apology for this.”

Another BRS leader Dasoju Shravan has condemned the police brutality against the protesting student. He said that it is wrong to construct a High Court on the university land. He said that the government forcibly snatched the university land to build the High Court building to promote real estate business. They warned that the move would destroy the environment and biodiversity and threaten the existence of rare species of birds and plants.

100 acres of university land allotted for construction of High Court

The state government has recently issued an order allotting 100 acres of land to the university in Rajendranagar for the construction of a new building of the state high court. BJP has also condemned the incident and said that it shows undemocratic and anti-student action of the state government.
