Forest Minister Kedar Kashyap has given written information that between December 23 and January 13-24, assistance amounting to Rs 1,71,79,010 has been paid in 1507 cases. The process of payment of one amount for the pending loss of life, 11 for crop damage, two for house damage and seven for other damage is pending, which will be paid within the time period of thirty to forty days. In the information given by Kedar Kashyap, it has been said that one person has died in Sarangarh-Bilaigarh forest division.

Similarly, three deaths have occurred in Surguja, one in Surajpur, one in Balrampur, three in Jashpur, one in Elephant Reserve Surguja Ambikapur and one in Balodabazar Forest Division. Elephants have damaged 3536199 hectares of crops, for which a compensation amount of Rs 7636809 has been given. He said that in case of death due to elephant attack, six lakhs, two lakhs in case of permanent disability, 59,100 in case of injuries, thirty thousand in case of loss of animals, nine thousand per acre in case of damage to crops and damage to houses in the general area. There is a provision to pay compensation of Rs 95,100 and Rs 1,01,900 in case of damage to a house in hilly areas.

Group of eight to ten elephants in Raigarh district

Raigarh, Kharsia Tamnar, Gharghoda, Dharamjaigarh and Lailunga development blocks under Raigarh district are elephant affected areas. Groups of about eight to ten elephants are roaming in these development blocks since January 23. The number of elephants in it is around 63-68. Forest Minister Kedar Kashyap has given written information on the questions raised by Umesh Patel in the Assembly. The Forest Minister has said that since January 23 till now, three cases of loss of life, one of permanent disability, 1746 cases of crop damage, 43 cases of house damage and 80 cases of other damage have been registered. In two cases of loss of life, immediate amount has been given to the relatives at the rate of Rs 25 thousand per person. The remaining amount will be paid as soon as the documents are received.

9,828 cases of crop damage registered

In the financial year 2023-24, till January 10, 2024, 52 cases of loss of life and 9,828 cases of crop damage have been registered in the elephant roaming areas of the state. Rs 9,46,60,262 has been paid in these cases. Forest Minister Kedar Kashyap has given written information on the questions asked by Vidyawati Sidar in the Assembly.
