The Indian Air Force successfully tested the new BrahMos missile from its warship on 24 January 2024. The range of this missile has been increased. Fire power has been increased. Besides, its stealth technology has been further improved. This was the land attack version. That is, a supersonic cruise missile attacking ground targets from a warship.
It is being told that its range is more than 800 kilometers. Because the Navy had issued NOTAM of 900 kilometers a few days ago. That is, ships and planes were asked to stay away from this distance in the sea. This is actually an Extended Range Supersonic Cruise Missile. BrahMos Aerospace Private Limited was also involved in this test.
What was special in this test…
More range… Indian Navy will get the benefit of increasing the range of BrahMos missile. He will be able to destroy his enemy target from a long distance in just a few seconds. Warships will be able to destroy the enemy from a distance. You will also be safe from enemy fire.
Perfect aim… BrahMos missile is known for its accuracy. That too over long distances. This test assures that even today the BrahMos missile is an accurate shooter missile. In which the possibility of collateral damage is very less.
Range… The range of the first naval version missile was 200 km. Which was increased to 500 km last year. Now it has increased to 800 km. This means that the Navy is going to fully benefit from the greater range.
BrahMos missile is not visible to the enemy
BrahMos missile is capable of changing its path in the air. Destroys even moving targets. It is capable of flying at a height of 10 meters, which means enemy radar will not be able to see it. It is almost impossible to kill it. BrahMos missile flies twice as fast as America’s Tomahawk missile. This missile produces 1200 units of energy, which can destroy any big target.
Four naval versions of BrahMos missile
There are four naval variants of BrahMos missile. First – Anti-Ship Variant to be fired from a warship, second – Land-Attack Variant to be fired from a warship. Both these variants are already operational in the Indian Navy. Third- Anti-ship variant fired from submarine. Successful testing has been done. Fourth- Land-attack variant launched from a submarine.
BrahMos is deployed on these warships
The Indian Navy has installed a launcher with 8 BrahMos missiles in the Rajput class destroyer INS Ranvir – INS Ranvijay. Apart from this, launchers with 8 BrahMos missiles are deployed in Talwar class frigates INS Teg, INS Tarkash and INS Trikand. BrahMos missile is also fitted in Shivalik class frigate. It is also deployed in Kolkata class destroyer. Successful testing has been done at INS Visakhapatnam. After this, the Indian Navy will also deploy this missile in the Nilgiri class frigate.
Strength of Naval BrahMos Missile
The BrahMos missile launched from a warship can carry a 200KG warhead. This missile has a speed of 4321 KM per hour. It has a two stage propulsion system. The first is solid and the second is liquid. The second stage is Ramjet Engine. Which gives it supersonic speed. Also reduces fuel consumption.
