What happened on January 13, 2024?
The date was 13 January 2024. It was two days before Makar Sankranti. A meeting of India Alliance was held that day. Regarding what happened in the meeting, there was news that Nitish had refused to take the post of coordinator in the opposition alliance. According to the news that came out that day, ‘Nitish Kumar said that Lalu Yadav ji is the most senior. He should be made the coordinator of the alliance. According to sources, Nitish Kumar said that Congress is the largest party, hence the Congress leader should be made the chairman of the alliance. I don’t want to be a coordinator. I will work for the post without any alliance.

…So was Nitish already angry?
But, according to sources, what came to light that day is only a part of the whole story. Actually the matter is further ahead. What happened was that Nitish Kumar had decided on January 13 itself that he would no longer be in the India alliance. The meeting was held through video conference on January 13. Nitish Kumar was already angry over the lack of seat sharing. Nitish was to be announced as the convener, but Rahul Gandhi had said that he will tell after consulting Mamata Banerjee. Due to this talk of Rahul Gandhi, Nitish had decided that he would no longer be in the INDIA block. It has come to light that Nitish had decided on the same day to break the relationship and in anger Nitish had said that
I don’t want to be the coordinator, make Lalu the coordinator.
…So the matter of making Lalu Yadav the convenor had come up, and it was said that Nitish had given the proposal. This proposal was not given on the basis of alliance religion or keeping in mind the seniority of Lalu Yadav, rather Nitish Kumar had said angrily that, ‘I don’t want to be the coordinator, make Lalu the coordinator.’
What happened after that?
What was to happen then… After this, a very close associate of Nitish Kumar contacted the senior Union Minister. Talked to the party leadership. After this conversation the Union Minister gave the green signal. Another hurdle came that the state leaders of BJP of Bihar were not ready. In such a situation, he was called to Delhi and prepared. There was mutual respect. To maintain pressure on Nitish, it was decided to make Samrat Chaudhary and Vijay Sinha, who had opened a front against him, as Deputy Chief Ministers.
This was the entire script of Nitish Kumar leaving RJD, defying the INDIA block and joining NDA once again.
Now let us look at some other reasons due to which Nitish was getting angry.
1. Delay regarding seat sharing
On one hand, BJP and NDA have started preparing for elections across the country in view of the approaching Lok Sabha dates, while on the other hand, Congress and other opposition parties have not been able to decide what to do next. While the Election Commission itself has geared up for the election preparations, the INDIA block parties have not yet been able to agree on seat sharing. JDU was continuously raising questions on this delay and was also getting angry. Nitish Kumar had already said that it is because of Congress that the work of INDIA Block is not progressing because the entire party is busy in the assembly elections. JDU leaders KC Tyagi and Vijay Chaudhary were also continuously giving statements holding Congress responsible for the delay.
2. Trouble with RJD too
Well, right after the alliance with RJD, news of speculations started coming out that something is not going well in JDU-RJD. An announcement from the Central Government confirmed this not going well thing. It so happened that the four top awards of the country are announced before the Republic Day. Following this tradition, the Central Government announced Bharat Ratna for former Bihar CM and public leader Karpoori Thakur. Hence… there was a stir in the political corridors of Bihar. CM Nitish Kumar gave a statement regarding familyism without taking names.
Said- ‘Karpoori Thakur never took his family forward. Nowadays people increase their families. After the demise of Karpoori Thakur, we made his son Ramnath Thakur. We also did not promote anyone in the family by learning from Karpuriji. We always enhance others.

This statement of Nitish Kumar created panic in RJD, but Lalu’s daughter Rohini Acharya took a step forward and attacked Nitish Kumar. End of 17 month old alliance

The series of movements that started from January 26 ended with Nitish Kumar taking oath for the ninth time on the evening of January 28. Nitish Kumar became the CM of Bihar for the ninth time on Sunday. He took oath at Raj Bhavan in Bihar on Sunday evening. Along with him, eight other ministers also took oath. Earlier in the day, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar had resigned from the post of CM of Bihar. With this resignation, the 17-month old Grand Alliance government in Bihar came to an end.
Nitish became CM again, what next?
The matter did not end here that Nitish became CM. According to sources, the next few days will also be full of activity in Bihar because till now only eight ministers have taken oath and the cabinet expansion is to take place in the coming days. Everyone’s portfolio has to be decided. The way caste equation has been kept in mind while forming the government. The top leadership will definitely keep this in mind while distributing the portfolio. In the new government, two ministers from Kurmi, two from Bhumihar caste, one from Rajput and one from Yadav caste are being made. Apart from this, one minister each from backward, extremely backward and Mahadalit has also been made.
Caste equation in the new government
Nitish Kumar himself is from Kurmi community. Samrat Chaudhary is from Koeri community and has been made Deputy CM. Vijay Kumar Chaudhary has also been made a minister. He belongs to Bhumihar caste. Vijendra is Yadav and Prem Kumar is from Kahar caste. Shravan Kumar is from Kurmi community. Sumit Singh is a Rajput and Santosh Suman comes from the Mahadalit community while being in the cabinet. Vijay Sinha is a Bhumihar who took oath as minister on Sunday.

Home Ministry will remain with CM Nitish only!
