Bhilai (Naiduniya representative). The highest production capacity (land based) solar plant of Indian Railways has been constructed in Charoda. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate it virtually on Saturday. Railways will produce green energy up to 50 MW capacity from this plant. The green energy generated in this plant will be given to Railway Power Grid Corporation. Railways will take the same amount of electricity as per its requirement from the grid at another place. Indian Railways is moving towards green energy. Under this, along with installing solar plants (roof top based) on railway station platforms and roofs of buildings, solar plants are also being installed on the vacant lands of the railways. Under the scheme, the Railway Board has installed a 50 MW capacity solar plant on the vacant land of Charoda Marshalling Yard under South East Central Railway, which is right next to the four lane.

After the completion of the work of this solar plant, experimental production was also started but it was not formally inaugurated. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate it virtually on Saturday at 11 am. During this time, Rajya Sabha member Saroj Pandey and Ahiwara MLA Domanlal Korsewada will be present at the local level.

Special features of solar plant

The work of setting up the solar plant started in March 2019 and was to be completed in October 2021, but due to Corona and other problems, the work could not be completed last year. A total of 1 lakh 54 thousand 500 solar plates have been installed in this 210 acre plant to generate green energy. There is a row of 20-20 plates. There is a power substation of 33 KV capacity in the campus where the power after being stored will be sent to another substation of 33/220 KV capacity. This sub station is four kilometers away near the sub station of Power Grid Corporation located at Kumhari. The power from the second sub-station will be stepped up and given to the power grid.

The entire project has cost around Rs 310 crore. The solar panel is placed at 18 degrees, which will absorb maximum solar rays. -Claim, saving of about Rs 360 crore in 25 years. If railway officials are to be believed, at present the Railways is taking electricity from Chhattisgarh Electricity Company at the rate of Rs 4.50 to 4.75 per unit. Installation of solar power plant will cost Rs 2.09 per unit. This will save approximately Rs 1.70 per unit.

In this way, Railways will save about Rs 360 crore in the coming 25 years. Railways aims to generate 20 percent of the total electricity as green energy. The company that built this plant for the Railways will run it on lease for 27 years. During this period, the company will resolve the technical problems in the solar plant and will continue producing electricity from the solar panels.

There is a 1.7 MW capacity plant in Bina.

Presently Railways has another solar plant (land based) in Bina, Madhya Pradesh. Its production capacity is 1.7 MW. This is a model project of Railways and production has already started. Apart from this, rooftop solar plants are on the roofs of almost all stations, yards and buildings.
