Raut raised the question whether the foundation of India is so weak that an 84-year-old man can wage a war against the country. Criticizing the current government is going against the country? Swamy’s death in custody cannot be justified even though Maoists and Naxalites are more dangerous than Kashmiri separatists.

hear the news

Shiv Sena MP Sanjay Raut on Sunday said the custodial death of Stan Swamy, an accused in the Elgar Parishad-Maoist ties case, cannot be justified even though Maoists are “more dangerous than Kashmiri separatists”.

In his weekly column ‘Rokhthok’ in party mouthpiece ‘Saamana’, Raut expressed surprise over the matter. He wrote that Swamy (84) would probably be the oldest person in India who was accused of terrorism. He recently passed away in a hospital in Mumbai. The matter of his bail on health grounds was pending in the court.

Raut, executive editor of ‘Saamana’, said, “Sarkar, who is scared of an 84-year-old disabled person, is dictatorial in character but weak in mind. Referring to the arrests of Varavara Rao, Sudha Bharadwaj, Gautam Navlakha and others in the Elgar Parishad-Maoist ties case, he said the activities of the Elgar Parishad could not be endorsed, but what happened later was ‘a conspiracy to curb freedom’. ‘ should be said.

Raut said all those arrested (in this case), including (scholar-activist) Anand Teltumbde, come from a particular ideology who gives voice to their rebellion through literature. He asked, ‘Can they overthrow the government with this?’ Raut said Stan Swamy died in custody while Prime Minister Narendra Modi held talks with those who want autonomy of Kashmir and the restoration of Article 370 there.

The Rajya Sabha member said, ‘We cannot agree with this ideology of Maoists and Naxalites. Swamy’s death in custody cannot be justified even though Maoists and Naxalites are more dangerous than Kashmiri separatists.

He also expressed surprise over the name of Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the list of global leaders who have curbed press freedom. “The situation is still not out of control in India, even if it is true that anyone who criticizes the government has been jailed under sedition laws,” he said. Indian press also raises its voice against such incidents. Raut asked, ‘Is the foundation of the country so weak that it can be threatened by an 84-year-old man?’
