Dr. Balram Bhargava, Director General, Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) has given a big information on the situation of corona epidemic in the country on Tuesday. He said that the fourth phase of the National Sero Survey has been completed. These four surveys have shown that 400 million population of the country are still at risk of getting infected with the corona virus, while antibodies against this virus have been found in two-thirds of the people.

Bhargava said that the fourth sero survey was conducted in 70 districts of 21 states. Children in the age group of 6-17 years were also included in these. During this, samples of 40 people were taken from 10 villages or wards of each district. 400 people aged up to 26 years took part in this survey from each district. At the same time, a sample of 100 health workers was taken from every district and sub-district included in the survey. Bhargava said that we also studied 7252 healthcare workers. Of these, 10 per cent had not been vaccinated, with an overall seroprevalence of 85.2 per cent.

Information on seroprivilence
It was found in this survey that seroprevalence in the entire population is 67.6 percent. Of these, in the age group of 6-9 years, it was 57.2 per cent, in 10-17 years it was 61.6 per cent, in 18-44 years it was 66.7 per cent and in the 45-60 years age group it was 77.6 per cent.

It would be wise to open a primary school before opening a secondary school
Bhargava said that we clearly know that children can fight infection with more capacity than adults. Antibody exposure is the same in children as in adults. Some Scandinavian countries have not closed their primary schools after any wave of corona. He said that in my view it would be wise to open a primary school before opening a secondary school. All support staff of school bus drivers, teachers and other school staff are required to be vaccinated.

Know what is sero survey
From this survey it was found that how much population has been infected with corona. It can be said that what percentage of people have developed herd immunity towards corona. In sero survey, the blood serum of many people living in an area is tested. With the presence of antibodies fighting the corona virus in people’s bodies, it is known which person was infected with this virus and has been cured at present.
