The censor board has sent ‘OMG 2’ to the review committee. It is understood that the plot of the film is a bit controversial and that is the reason for the delay from the censor board. The way CBFC has suffered after ‘Adipurush’ and now ‘Oppenheimer’, the board is in no mood to make any mistakes on its part. Interestingly, the makers had earlier decided to release ‘OMG 2’ on the OTT platform. But then suddenly at the time of the release of the first poster, it was decided to bring it to the theatres.
OTT deal suddenly canceled
‘OMG 2’ is co-produced by ‘Viacom 18’. According to the report of ‘Koimoi’, the film was first set to release on Jio Cinema. For this, talks were not only being held with the OTT platform, but the deal was also finalized for Rs 90 crore. But before the deal could be sealed, it was suddenly called off.
Akshay Kumar wanted the film to be released in theaters
The report quoted an insider as saying, “Viacom18 was expecting a strong offer from Jio Cinema. The deal was about to be finalized at Rs 90 crore. But then only Akshay Kumar showed interest in releasing ‘OMG 2’ in theatres. After the actor’s request for a theatrical release, the makers put the preparations for the release on OTT in abeyance.
‘Now filmmakers are regretting’
It further added, ‘Now that the film is stuck at the censor board, the makers are regretting their decision to change their mind about the OTT release.’
OMG 2 to release on August 11 if it passes the censor board
‘Oh My God 2’ is set to release on 11th August 2023 at the box office. Sunny Deol’s ‘Gadar 2’ will also release on the same day. It is expected that the film will get the certificate from the censor board in two-three days. Apart from Akshay Kumar, the film also stars Pankaj Tripathi, Yami Gautam and Arun Govil in key roles.
