The GSEB HSC Result for Gujarat board class 12th science was declared yesterday. Almost 72% of students have passed the HSC examination.

The Gujarat HSC result of science students of Class 12 has been declared on result.gseb.org. The Gujarat Education Minister Jitu Vaghani announced the Gujarat Secondary and Higher Secondary Education Board results of Class 12 science stream pass percentage is 72.02% in Gandhinagar.

The HSC Science examinations were held in 140 centers across the state. Gujarat’s Class 12 board exam was held from March 28 to April 12 for Science and General streams.

A total of 1,06,347 students. Among these, 95,361 are regular, and 10,986 repeaters appeared for the class 12th science examination. Among all these students, 68,681 students have qualified for the pass certificate. If we talk about the repeat category, a pass percentage of 23.84 percent was declared pass.

Among all the districts of Gujarat, the Rajkot district secured the top position with an 85.78 pass percentage and Dahod secured the bottom position with 40.19 percent.

If we talk about the previous year’s pass percentage, it was 71.34% in 2019-2020. Despite the pass percentage being marginally higher than the previous year, still both the school and students were not happy. The reason is that this year’s question papers were easier, as compared to last year. There is also an increased percentage of multiple questions (MCQs) with an increased number of choices in the general section.

From the above, it is clear that there is a wide gap of 10 percent between the pass percentage of Group A and Group B students. 78% of the students who opted for Group A passed with a percentage of 68.58 among Group B (Biology) students. The students who opted for both groups A and B secured a pass percentage of 78.38 percent.

The Gujarat State Board Exams were conducted within a gap of the academic year due to the pandemic. The last board exams were conducted in March 2020. In between, there were no exams conducted in the academic year 2020-21 and saw mass promotion due to the pandemic.

While speaking with one of the 12th class science students who scored 64% and 70 percentile, we got to know that students of class 12th science stream were expecting more marks. We often asked the student if the results got impacted due to online classes and the pandemic? He replied that last year it was impacted but not this year. According to the students, during the pandemic years, the students have lost the practice of writing the exams.

GSEB chairman AJ Shah also expressed his view on the examination result, he said, “Students might feel they have done and written well but, its the evaluator’s responsibility to check how much was required as per the questions and how much written. Students have a chance for rechecking and revaluation of their answer sheets.”
