Kanker. The festival of Makar Sankranti was celebrated with great enthusiasm in the region. People start the day with darshan of God in the temple after taking bath in the river, ponds in the morning. People made sesame-jaggery laddus in their homes and distributed prasad to each other after worship. On the other hand there was a lot of kite flying. Children were seen flying kites everywhere in the city and shopping for kites in shops.
On Friday, the festival of Makar Sankranti was celebrated with great enthusiasm in the region. After reaching the temples in the morning, people offered prayers and offered laddas made of sesame and jaggery to the Lord and accepted the prasad. As per tradition, kite flying was also done on this occasion. There was a rush of children to buy kites in the shops and colorful kites were seen flying in the sky.
On the occasion of Makar Sankranti, kite flying competition was also organized in Rajapara ward of the city. Rajapara Ward Councilor Anand Chaurasia said that keeping in view the enthusiasm and enthusiasm of the children, kite flying competition was organized for the children.
The children who got first, second and third place were also rewarded. Aditya Mishra and Yuvraj Dubey of Rajapara Ward told that they also like to fly kites. He started kite flying even before the start of Makar Sankranti and enjoys flying kites on holidays. More number of kites start flying after Makar Sankranti. A large number of colorful kites were seen flying in the sky throughout the day.

Kites are sold in abundance in the area and kites start flying in the sky even before Makar Sankranti. Kite seller Dinesh Chauhan told that the kite was sold well on Makar Sankranti, since the morning children were reaching to buy kites. The demand for kites had started in the area from the month of November itself. Children were not able to fly kites due to rain for the last several days, but today due to clear weather, kites were sold in large numbers.
Special worship in temples
On the occasion of Makar Sankranti, special pujas are offered in temples and in homes. People prayed for happiness and prosperity by offering prayers. Pandit Dharmendra Mishra told that during the Sankranti period, there is a special importance of Havan-worship and charity. Devotees should donate as much power as sesame seeds, pots, gold etc. In this festival, it is also called Til Sankranti due to the special importance of sesame donation, sesame consumption, sesame bath, sesame mixed water intake, sesame seeds havan.

The festival of Lohri is celebrated a day before Makar Sankranti. The festival of Lohri is celebrated with great pomp in the Punjab, Haryana region. Punjabis celebrate this festival specially. Neena Paruthi told that a few days before Lohri, small children start collecting wood, dry fruits, ravdis, groundnuts for Lohri by singing Lohri songs. A fire is lit on the evening of Lohri. People gather near the fire and dance and sing. They offer revdi, groundnut, dates, maize grains in the fire and enjoy eating revdi, dates, gajjak, maize. The house in which there is a new marriage or child has been specially congratulated on this occasion. Along with this, after worshiping Agnidev, he got blessings by doing circumambulation. In Punjab, this festival is celebrated to mark the harvest of wheat.
