Eight teams played in IPL 2021. With the arrival of two new teams, now the format of the tournament can change. Also the number of players and matches will also increase. Also, with the arrival of two new teams, BCCI’s earnings from the next season will also increase.

Now from next year 10 teams will be seen playing in IPL. Goenka Group has bought the Lucknow franchise for Rs 7090 crore and CVC Capital Partners has bought the Ahmedabad franchise for Rs 5625 crore. Goenka Group has been a part of IPL even before this. He bought the Rising Super Giants franchise in 2016 and 2017.

First 10 teams played in IPL
This is not the first time that ten teams will play in a season of IPL. Earlier in 2011 also ten teams have played. Pune Warriors and Kochi Tuskers were the two new participating teams at that time. Kochi was banned in 2012. Nine teams took part in the next two seasons i.e. 2012 and 2013. In 2014 the league once again returned to an eight-team tournament.

Let’s know what changes are going to happen…

1. The format will change with the arrival of 10 teams. Now matches will be held again on the 2011 format. Although it has not been officially confirmed yet, the BCCI had already said that the format will have to be changed as the teams grow. In such a situation, according to the 2011 format, 10 teams will be divided into groups of two.

2. The number of matches will increase. Since returning to the eight-team format in 2014, matches have been played in a round-robin format. There were a total of 60 matches in this format. There were 56 matches in the league stage and four in the playoffs. Now with the increase of two teams, 74 matches will be played. A team will play only 14 matches, but the format will change.

3. The number of players will also increase. At present, a team is allowed to have a maximum of 25 players. After the arrival of two teams, 50 more players will come to play the tournament according to 25-25. The arrival of new players will add to the charm of the tournament.
4. The arrival of new teams will also benefit the domestic cricketers. This is because at present only eight foreign players can be kept in a team. The two new teams will have only 16 foreign players out of 50 new players. The remaining 34 players will be domestic cricketers. This will give them an opportunity to face international bowlers and this will give new talent to Indian cricket.

5. Foreign players will also benefit, because having limited number of foreign players could buy them only a few franchises. Now the team will be able to buy 16 new foreign players. Players like Joe Root and Aaron Finch can get a chance to play in the IPL. With this, players who remained unsold in the last season or before are sure to get a place.

6. Two new teams will get new coaches. With this the cricketers will get to learn something new from them and it can benefit them at the international level.
7. After the arrival of two new teams, now there will be a mega auction for it in November or December.

  • Mega auctions were held every three years. The last mega auction took place in 2018, as Chennai Super Kings and Rajasthan Royals returned to the league after serving two-year bans. In this mega auction, 8 teams bid to choose 578 players from 13 countries for 182 slots. Two more teams will join the league next year. In such a situation, there is bound to be a mega auction.
  • According to the current rules, franchises are allowed to retain a maximum of five players in a mega auction. All other players are involved in the auction. These can be bought by any franchisee in the auction. In this, new teams are formed. However, according to media reports, this time the rule of retaining four players may come.
  • According to the current rules, three players can be retained by the franchise in the opening round and two players during the auction with the right to match card. Two foreign players can also be among the three players retained by the franchise. However, now in the new rule, for retaining four players, two Indians-two foreigners or three Indians and one foreigner can be retained.
  • Apart from this, franchisees can also bring players in the previous squad using the right to match card. All franchises have two right to match cards. However, now it is not decided whether there will be a right to match card in the new retention policy.

8. New retention policy will also come. This will be able to know how many players can be retained, that is, the team can already add them to their team. It will also be announced in a day or two.

9. BCCI is going to benefit a lot. This is because the board had earlier expected that the two new teams would benefit them Rs 3500 crore, but the BCCI got double the amount only on the Lucknow franchise. The BCCI has made a profit of Rs 12,715 crore from the two new teams. Now this will also increase the broadcaster’s earnings. Also he will pay more fees to BCCI.

10. With the arrival of two new teams, the number of matches will increase and the fans will be entertained. In this time of Corona, fans will be able to enjoy the match by staying at home.
