Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka and Puducherry said they do not have enough stock of vaccines. Due to uncertainty over the supply of vaccines, the Tamil Nadu government on Friday decided to postpone the vaccination to be held on May 1.
Tamil Nadu Health Secretary Dr J Radhakrishnan said that instead of waiting till tomorrow (and disappointing people), I want to clarify now that we do not know how many doses of vaccines will be received from the 1.5 crore doses demanded by the Tamil Nadu government and When will you meet.
Asked if there will be vaccination tomorrow, he said that we do not know whether we will get vaccines or not and how many will be available tomorrow. The state government is yet to receive a reply from the Center on the demand for vaccines.
At the same time, Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan said on the issue that when there is a shortage of vaccines, the state cannot take a decision on its own.
Karnataka Chief Minister BS Yeddyurappa said vaccination of the concerned age group may be delayed as vaccines have not yet been received.
At the same time, Andhra Pradesh Principal Secretary (Medical and Health) Anil Kumar Singhal said that the state is unable to initiate the third phase of vaccination due to lack of vaccines.
A spokesperson of Puducherry’s Department of Health and Family Welfare said that the consignment of vaccines for vaccination of the concerned age group has not arrived on May 1 and due to this, the vaccination program on May 1 has been delayed.
