Phanishwar Nath Renu, who gave birth to regional genre in Hindi literature, is not interested in any introduction. Today Araria’s identity is on the world psyche and it is about regional literature composed by Renu. Born on 04 March 1921 in Aurahi Hingna village, this year is the birth centenary year of Phanishwar Nath Renu and to make it memorable, programs are being organized by Hindi literature seekers in many parts of the world including India. But Phaniswarnath Renu, who left an indelible mark due to his writing on the world psyche table, is to be sold in his own house on the occasion of birth centenary.
Renu in her own house
At the government level, no administrative program is being organized for the birth centenary year. However the state government has decided to organize the event on the occasion of the birth centenary through a webinar, in which the Renu family will be able to join through the literary link.
Renu, the creator of the new zonal genre in Hindi literature, is paired with the Munshi Premchand, a pioneer of Hindi literature, in words, in a typical village-jawar language spoken in the footpath of the sandy land of Kosi’s fallow story. Renu is considered to be equivalent to the authorship of the English literature storyteller William Wordsworth. Renu’s composition is considered not only colloquial but also word-like.
Introduction to Renu and his biography
Phaniswarnath Renu was born on 04 March 1921 in Aurahi Hingna village of Araria, Bihar. The present Araria district was part of Purnia district at that time and today the village of Renu comes under Araria district and Farbisganj subdivision. Renu ji’s early education took place through the village in Farbisganj. After which he moved to Viratnagar in Nepal and passed matriculation examination by staying in Koirala family.
Renu’s family had a good relationship with the Koirala family. After passing matriculation, he passed the intermediate examination from a school affiliated to Kashi Hindu University for higher education. In Renuji, the passion of patriotism was full. For this reason, he jumped into the Indian freedom struggle in 1942 at the call of Father of the Nation Mahatma Gandhi and took part in the British Quit India Movement.
Renu was a revolutionary by nature
Along with playing his part in the Indian freedom struggle, Phaniswarnath Renu fiercely participated in the ongoing war against Rana Shahi in Nepal in the fifties. Renu not only raised her voice with the Koirala family in the fight being fought against Rana Shahi in Nepal, but also intensified the Indo-Nepal friendship in the border areas.
Role played in Nepal-India relationship too
He was the leader of the movement from the lowlands of India against the power of the repressive monarchy of Nepal. After the war against the monarchy in Nepal, he also actively participated in the student movement being fought under the leadership of Loknayak Jayaprakash Narayan, the leader of socialism and Jayaprakash Along with Narayan, he continued to raise his voice against the Emergency in Patna and other Hindi belt areas including Patna.
Returned Padma Shri as Papashree Award
Renuji was a man of indomitable spirit and diligence. He neither bowed nor stopped. Renu was honored with the Padma Shri award on 21 April 1970 by the then President Varahagiri Venkatagiri. But during a demonstration led by Lok Nayak Jayaprakash Narayan in Patna on November 04, when the police used sticks on unarmed people, they not only returned the pension of three hundred rupees received by the Bihar government in protest against the Emergency, but also the Padma Shri Award Also returned as Papashree award.
Renu and his literature
Renu’s writing was of a descriptive style with rural zest. The characters and background were also rural style. He used to give lively appearance to the characters and background due to his writing. The story of the characters in their story was dominated by events. Be it the story of Batbaba or the wrestler’s dholak. The smell of the primitive night, thumri, longitudinal or any of their composed stories would tell the reality.
Renu gets the most fame due to sloppy anchal
Renu composed many stories like this, but he got the most fame from sloppy Aanchal. His magnum opus Maila Aanchal was published in 1954. Renu’s handwritten book Maila Aanchal at Gandhi Maidan in Patna was first read by the great critic Nalin Vilochan Sharma, it was called a supernatural work and after getting reviews in various journals, Rajkamal Prakashan published Maila Aanchal.
Apart from this, many stories including fallow fairy tale, Mayuri of graffiti, fragrance of primitive night, Thumri, Agnikhor, good man, Palatu Babu’s road, procession, longevity, how many crossroads, Nepali revolutionaries and writing his memoir gave priceless heritage to Hindi literature.

A film was also made on Renu’s composition ‘Mare Gaye Gulfam’
A third swear film was also made on Renu’s composition Killed Gulfam. Producer director Basu Bhattacharya and lyricist Shailendra produced the third swearing film featuring Raj Kapoor and Waheeda Rehman. However, the producer-director, who made the film due to heavy debt, went into such a shock due to the failure of the film in the initial stages that he gave up his life. But the film later proved to be a super-duper hit. The lyrics of the film were written by Shailendra and Hasrat Jaipuri, while the music was by Shankar-Jaikishan.
Later, with Dharmendra and Padma Khanna, production of the second film Dagadar Babu on Renu’s writing began and more than half the film’s reel was also ready but for some reason the film could not be completed.
Frustrated over not being able to do the program
On the occasion of Renu’s birth centenary, programs are being organized in the country and world by Hindi litterateurs. But no program is being organized except for a webinar at the government level in Aurahi Hingna, village of Renu. Although last year, the Bihar government had decided to celebrate Renu Mahotsav for the completion of hundred years of Renu Janmashtabdi and a fund of Rs 20 lakh was also released, but due to disaster like Corona, the program could not be done and the amount She also returned.
Due to lack of large-scale programs on the occasion of the birth centenary of Renu, the villagers and members of the Renu family including Renu’s followers are sorry Renu’s elder son and former MLA Padma Parag Rai Venu, middle son Aparajit Rai Appu and youngest son Dakshineshwar Rai Pappu have spoken of organizing other programs including tributes at the village level as per the guidelines given under Corona.
