The 14th season of the Indian Premier League is coming with controversy before it starts. Three franchisees have strongly objected to the venue. The news is even that a complaint has been lodged in writing.

According to media reports, during the Corona era, the BCCI had previously selected Mumbai-Pune for league matches, while Ahmedabad was selected for the playoffs, but now it is discussed to be held in five to six cities instead of two.

According to the news published in Cricbuzz, Rajasthan Royals, Punjab Kings and Sunrisers Hyderabad have strongly objected to the six cities selected for the matches. Negotiations have also been initiated with BCCI CEO Hemang Amin in this regard. All the three franchises have written complaints to which there has been no response from the BCI or the IPL Governing Council.

In some states of the country including Maharashtra, BCCI started work on its second plan due to increasing cases of Kovid-19, in which it has finalized the names of Chennai, Kolkata, Ahmedabad, Delhi and Bangalore. Mumbai may later be chosen as the sixth venue as per Kovid’s latest status. The same thing is going on with the other three franchises, whose matches will not be played at the local ground this year.

An official associated with one of the Sunrisers Hyderabad, Punjab Kings and Rajasthan Royals says, “These three franchises will be badly affected by this arrangement.” The team that reaches the tournament playoffs performs well in their home ground. It is easy to win five to six bouts on favorable conditions and habitual pitch. In such a situation, RCB, Chennai Super Kings, Kolkata Knight Riders, Delhi Capitals and Mumbai Indians will get additional benefit. Either all the matches should be held in a neutral place, so that the match is equal.

Meanwhile, the Hyderabad Cricket Association has also staked its claim to host IPL 2021. The president of the association and former Indian captain Mohammad Azharuddin believes that his city is ready for the event with full vigilance. Azhar tweeted, ‘I strongly support Katie Rama Rao’s appeal. Hyderabad is fully capable of organizing IPL in bio-secure bubble as per BCCI rules and guidelines.

In fact, earlier in the day, Telangana National Committee (TRS) Executive Chairman KT Rama Rao appealed to the BCCI and IPL officials to include Hyderabad as the venue. Rao also tweeted, ‘Due to our rules, the Corona cases are much lower in Hyderabad than in other metro cities of the country. We assure that the government will provide all possible help during the IPL matches.
