The Congress had earlier formed a grand alliance with the AIUDF, CPI, CPI (M), CPI (Male) and Zonal Gan Morcha (AGM) to contest the assembly elections strongly against the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA).
The BPF and RJD joined the alliance on Saturday to strengthen the anti-BJP group. The RJD is the largest party in the Bihar Legislative Assembly, but does not have any member in the Lok Sabha. The BJP will contest the Assam elections along with the Assam Gana Parishad (AGP) and the United People’s Party Liberals (UPPL).
The BPF announced in the day that they would join the grand alliance to contest the upcoming assembly elections. Welcoming the decision, the Congress expressed confidence that the party would come back to power.
After meeting Assam Congress chief Ripun Bora and AIUDF chief Badruddin Ajmal, RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav announced that his party would be a part of the grand alliance in Assam.
