The economy is now showing signs of gradual improvement. GST revenue has been the highest during December 2020 since the introduction of GST and is the first time it has crossed the Rs 1.15 lakh crore mark. The GST collection stood at Rs 1,15,174 crore in December. This is the third consecutive month when the GST collection has crossed Rs 1 lakh crore. The Finance Ministry said that the contribution of the Central GST to the total revenue was Rs 21,365 crore. The state GST stood at Rs 27,804 crore. The integrated GST during this period stood at Rs 57,426 crore and Cess Rs 8,579 crore.

As per the recent trend of improvement in GST revenue, the collection figures in December were up by 12 per cent over the same month last year. This is a good sign for the economy going through a recession. During this period, revenue from import of goods was 27 per cent higher than the same month last year and revenue from domestic transactions (including import of services) was eight per cent higher. Till now the GST collection in the month of April 2019 stood at Rs 1,13,866 crore, the highest level.
