The central government has set a target of running a bullet train from Ahmedabad to Mumbai by 2024, but due to problems in land acquisition, this train will no longer run till Mumbai. The train will be started in two phases.
In the first phase, the bullet train will run 325 kilometers between Ahmedabad to Vapi in Gujarat. Land acquisition work between these two cities has also been completed and work on the project has also started. In response to the bullet train question, Railway Board President VK Yadav said that, in Gujarat, more than 80 percent success has been achieved in land acquisition while in Maharashtra, there is a lot of difficulty in land acquisition. Only 20 percent work has been completed there. Due to this, the entire project is seen hanging.
In the second phase, there are problems in land acquisition, in this a bullet train between Vapi and Bandra will be run only when the land acquisition is completed. In the first phase, there will be no problem in running the train from Ahmedabad to Vapi.
Yadav further said that, there is a continuous discussion about the acquisition of land by the Railways with the Government of Maharashtra. The Chief Secretary of the Government of Maharashtra assured that in the next 3-4 months, 80 percent of the land acquisition in Maharashtra could be completed.
The Railway Ministry clearly stated that if the Maharashtra government did not cooperate, the bullet train could be run in two phases.
Significantly, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the then Prime Minister of Japan Shinzo Abe started the project worth 1.08 lakh crore rupees ($ 17 billion) on 14 September 2017. The initial time limit for completion of this project is 2024.
The Ahmedabad-Mumbai bullet train project is 508 km long. There will be 12 stations between these two stations. The bullet train will run at a speed of 320 kilometers per hour and this distance will be completed in 2-3 hours. Compared to other trains, it takes 7 hours to cover the distance while on the plane it takes one hour.
