Prime Minister Narendra Modi will flag off the country’s first driverless metro on December 28. Delhi’s residents will get the first driverless metro on the Magenta Line within a radius of 37 km between Janakpuri West-Botanical Garden. During this time, the National Common Mobility Card (NBMC) will also be launched to travel on the Airport Express Line.

The driveless metro was trialled about three years ago by the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC). With the commencement of the driverless metro operations on the Mangenta Line, passengers will get quicker and better services. The special thing will be that the entire operation process will be monitored by the Operation and Control Center (OCC).

This is considered to be the biggest achievement during the 18 years of Delhi Metro services. DMRC Executive Director (Corporate Communications) Anuj Dayal said that it is a matter of great pride that the people of Delhi will get the opportunity to travel in the country’s first driverless metro. The Prime Minister will inaugurate it and the metro will also be driverless on the Pink Line by next year.

From the year 2002, DMRC started the metro service between Shahdara-Tis Hazari within a radius of 8.4 km. Now after expanding the network of Metro, its scope has increased to 390 km.
