On Tuesday, Pushp Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ led camp announced the removal of Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli as the chairman of the ruling Nepal Communist Party after the Central Committee meeting. The Prachanda-led camp unanimously appointed senior leader Madhav Kumar Nepal as the second president of the party at the Central Committee meeting. Prachanda is the first president of the party.
Earlier, Oli had on Tuesday formed a new 1199-member committee to organize the party’s general assembly with the aim of strengthening its hold on the organization. Central committee member Rekha Sharma said, “As per party rules, now Pushp Kamal Dahal Prachanda and Madhav Kumar Nepal will preside over the meetings in turn.”
The Kathmandu Post report quoted Sharma as saying, “KP Sharma Oli has been removed from the post of party president for going against the party”. Earlier in the day, KP Oli, one of the two heads of the ruling party, announced the new committee during a meeting with his close members of the party’s central committee at his official residence.
It is noteworthy that Prime Minister Oli had on Sunday recommended to the President to dissolve the Parliament to surprise his rivals and it was also approved by President Vidya Devi. The move came amid a long-running struggle for power between PM Oli and former Prime Minister Pushp Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’.
