The UP government has decided to set up 28 new Nagar Panchayats in the state. At the same time, the proposal for extension of boundary of 21 other municipal bodies including Gorakhpur and Varanasi municipal corporations has been approved. Other municipal bodies whose limits have been expanded include 9 Nagar Palika Parishad and 12 Nagar Panchayats.

The government has approved the Cabinet by Circulation on Monday. After this decision of the government, now the number of municipal bodies in the state has increased from 707 to 735.

According to the proposal of the Municipal Development Department, 28 new Nagar Panchayats have been constituted covering 276 revenue villages. Whereas the boundary of 12 Nagar Panchayats has been expanded to include 77 revenue villages. With this, the limit of nine municipal councils has been increased to include 102 revenue villages.

Similarly, the boundary has been expanded to include nine revenue villages in Municipal Corporation Gorakhpur and one in Municipal Corporation Varanasi. In this way, now the number of municipal corporations in the state will be 17, the number of Nagar Palika Parishad will be 200 and the number of Nagar Panchayats will be 518. After the formation of new city panchayats and expansion of the old, the population of urban area of ​​the state has increased by 905700 and 57474 hectares. According to the 2011 census, there is 31.16 percent urban area at the national level.

According to the data, only 22 percent of the urban area is in the state. Accordingly, UP is far behind. Keeping this in mind, the state government is focusing on increasing the figure of urbanization in the state.

Explain that the state government had recently decided to set up city panchayats to provide urban facilities to the people living in towns with a population of 20 Hazara. In this series, the proposal was prepared by the city development department. Which has been approved by the cabinet.
