Due to the ongoing cold wave across North India, the cold conditions continued to prevail in most parts on Saturday. Meanwhile, the minimum temperature in the national capital fell to 3.9 degrees Celsius on Saturday. Similarly, Srinagar also recorded the lowest temperature of this season.

At the same time, the temperature in Keylong in Himachal Pradesh went below zero at 12.1 degree Celsius. Cold wave intensified in Punjab and Haryana and in Adampur, the mercury dropped to minus 1.9 degrees Celsius, the lowest recorded in both the states.

Amritsar recorded a minimum temperature of 0.6 degree Celsius. The minimum temperatures at Faridkot, Pathankot, Bathinda, Ludhiana, Patiala and Gurdaspur were 1.0, 2.2, 2.6, 2.8, 4 and 4.1 degrees Celsius respectively.

In the neighboring state of Haryana, Ambala recorded a minimum temperature of 4.0 degree Celsius, while Hisar and Karnal had a minimum temperature of 2.8 and 2.3 degree Celsius respectively.

Winter season continues in Uttar Pradesh
On the other hand, winter season continued for the last 24 hours in Uttar Pradesh. Winter season continues in cities like Lucknow, Prayagraj and Kanpur. At the same time, Saturday night was the coldest night of this season in Srinagar and mercury is being recorded below zero in the city. ‘Chillai-Kalan’ is starting in the valley from Monday. This is a 40-day period and during this time there is a maximum drop in temperature and the possibility of snow fall is considerable.

Officials said the mercury in Pahalgam in south Kashmir was minus 9.5 degrees Celsius while the minimum temperature in Gulmarg was minus 9.2 degrees Celsius. Officials said the minimum temperature in Qazigund was recorded at minus 5.9 degrees Celsius. Kupwara recorded a minimum temperature of minus 6 degrees Celsius.

The Meteorological Department said that there is no forecast of major snowfall till the end of this month. However, light to moderate snowfall may occur in remote areas of Kashmir on Monday and Tuesday.

Chill in Rajasthan
Most parts of Rajasthan are also experiencing a cold winter and the minimum temperature was minus 1.4 degree Celsius in Mount Abu and minus 0.1 degree Celsius in Churu. Similarly, the cold winter continued even in remote areas of Uttar Pradesh.

Cold wave has been prevailing in Rewa, Shahdol, Sagar, Jabalpur, Gwalior and Chambal divisions of Madhya Pradesh for the last 24 hours. Many of these places have been forecast to have a cold weather till Sunday morning.

GD Mishra, senior meteorologist of IMD’s Bhopal office, said on Saturday that cold wave will continue in some places in Gwalior, Chambal and Shahdol as well as in Rewa, Satna, Sagar and Chhatarpur by Sunday morning.

He said that nine of the 30 weather stations in Madhya Pradesh recorded temperatures between three degrees Celsius (in Umaria) to five degrees Celsius during the 24-hour period ending till 8.30 AM on Saturday. Many centers recorded minimum temperatures ranging from three to 10 degrees Celsius. The minimum temperature in Bhopal was 6.6 degrees Celsius.
