The Supreme Court on Thursday issued a notice to the Center and seven state governments on a petition by Twitter Communications India Private Limited seeking cancellation of the cases registered against it.

In fact, a number of FIRs have been filed against Twitter India over the alleged charge of promoting Khalistan support tweet by Gurpatwant Singh Pannu. A three-member bench headed by Chief Justice SA Bobde has also issued a notice to BJP IT Cell national co-convenor Vineet Goenka on a petition by Twitter India.

Twitter India says a tweet poll by Pannu on Twitter was, ‘Should India recognize Khalistan 2020?’ After this, several FIRs have been filed against him. The petition said that Goenka and other complainants alleged that Twitter promoted Pannu’s tweet for financial gain, while Twitter India blocked his tweet and suspended his account.

Twitter India has said that in the last months Goenka and his supporters had organized a webinar that Twitter should be declared a terrorist organization and its officials should be prosecuted for treason. At the same time, a large number of cases against Twitter and its employees were encouraged to register.

Twitter India says the allegations leveled by Goenka and his support are baseless, baseless and malicious. He also says that he does not collect revenue for the content promoted on his platform.
