Many water bodies have started freezing in Kashmir including Srinagar’s famous Dal Lake. Jammu is also freezing amid fog. In Jammu city itself, minimum temperature reached 6 degree below normal on Thursday. According to the Meteorological Department, cold can increase further in the coming days.
Chillay Kalan will start in Jammu and Kashmir from December 21. Chilla Kalan of forty days is the coldest. But before this, the entire state including the valley is getting cold blood. Apart from the snow-logged mountains, it has become difficult for people to leave their homes in the plains. Srinagar recorded the coldest night of the season with minus 6.4 degrees Celsius. According to the Meteorological Department, this is the fourth time in December during the last ten years when such a low temperature has been recorded. Earlier, the temperature was recorded at -6.5 on 21 December 2016 and 30 December 2019 and -7.7 degree on 25 December 2018. Meanwhile, mercury is running several degrees below zero in various areas of Ladakh.
Sonam Lotus, director of the meteorological center Srinagar, says that the temperature of the state will fall further in the coming days. During December, Srinagar recorded a minimum temperature of -12.8 in 1964. Jammu recorded a minimum temperature of 0.9 degrees in the year 1998.
Fog havoc in many areas including Jammu
Fog has started in many areas of the state including Jammu city. Life is beginning to be affected by the thick fog accompanied by a chilling cold. Road traffic is getting severely affected due to fog. On Thursday, there was more trouble in the morning and evening due to fog.
