Himachal Pradesh Election Commission has released the notification for the election of 50 urban bodies on Thursday. These do not include elections to the newly created Amb, Chidgaon, Kandaghat, Nerwa, Nirmand and Ani Nagar Panchayats. Candidates will be able to file nominations on December 24, 26 and 28 for election to the city council / nagar panchayat. Nomination papers will be scrutinized on 29 December. December 31 is the day of withdrawal of nomination. On this day, the final list of candidates who will contest the election will be released. A list of polling booths will be released by 24 December. Voting will be held on 10 January 2021 from 8 am to 4 pm and the results will be announced immediately thereafter.
The entire election process will be completed by 12 January 2021. A notification in this regard has been issued by Surjit Singh Rathore, Secretary, State Election Commission. Model Election Code of Conduct has been implemented in state 50 city councils / nagar panchayats as soon as election notification is issued. As soon as the Model Code of Conduct is implemented, new works will not be able to be started in the municipal bodies. Already, there have not been many development works in Panchayats for months between corona infections. In such a situation, many development activities may come to a standstill.
This time the government is preparing SOP for the Panchayati Raj elections. Polling booths will be sanitized during voting at the time of election. It will be decided how many people can come together to vote at the booth at a time. Voting time may increase slightly due to security. If there is a Kovid positive in a village, there will be a provision of separate voting for it. The state government will bear whatever expenses will be incurred for the health protection of the people. Election roster has been released in most districts of the state.
