There are 62 lakh units (consumers) in the state under the National Food Security Scheme. Of these, only 55.50 lakh consumers have been updated in the Aadhaar ration card. The central government has stopped the subsidy of Rs 300 crore of the state government due to non-update of Aadhaar in the National Food Security Scheme (NFSA). The central government was putting pressure on the state government to update the 100 percent Aadhaar in the ration card or to remove the units if the Aadhaar is not updated. The central government gives subsidy to the state for food grains distributed under the National Food Security Scheme. This subsidy reached Rs 300 crore in a year.

Aadhaar update can be done by February
The central government has given a target of 62 lakh units under the National Food Scheme to the state government. Now only 55.50 units are left under this scheme. The state government has given time till February to the consumers who have been removed from the portal. By February, these consumers can get Aadhaar updated in ration cards.

DSOs of 13 districts have written to the state government seeking concession. It states that there are many consumers in the state who are disabled. The Aadhaar card of such persons cannot be made, hence the ration of such units should be issued.

The central government has withheld the state’s Rs 300-crore subsidy base under the National Food Security Scheme as it is not updated. Hence the units which were not updated with Aadhaar card, had to be removed. Now the supply department has removed six and a half lakh such units from ration cards all over the state. These consumers will not get ration. However, such consumers can update their Aadhaar by February.
