Thousands of farmers in Delhi surrounded by farmers on all borders have been facing the brunt of not getting the Minimum Support Price (MSP) for the last five years. During this period, the demand of farmers from the central and state government was ignored. Therefore, farmers of Delhi are also joining the nationwide farmer movement. With this, they too are awaiting hearing on their demands soon.

A total of 142 villages in Delhi are cultivated. It also produces vegetables including crops like wheat, sorghum, millet, mustard, paddy. Farmers are pained that in the year 2015, there was an initiative to give benefit of MSP to some farmers, but now nothing is being achieved. Sarvesh Kumar’s report describing the farmers in Delhi due to lack of MSP:

Surendra, a resident of village Palla, says that due to non-availability of MSP, the problems of farmers are increasing continuously. If the cost of food grains is not equal to the cost price, how will the farmers survive. Farmers are not getting the benefit of MSP in Delhi, demand has been raised for this many times, but the hands of farmers are empty.

According to Rajendra Dagar, a resident of Jhaoda Kalan, due to non-availability of MSP, he has to sell crops in Najafgarh Mandi. He said that farmers who produce food grains also do not have the right to decide the price. Due to lack of benefit of MSP fixed by the government, the middlemen are forced to sell the crops at a low price of Rs 500-1000 per quintal. For this, talks with MPs and ministers did not yield any result.

Dharmendra Yadav, a resident of Surhera, says that he lost about Rs 550 per quintal from MSP in wheat while mustard sales were sold at a rate of about Rs 1,000 less. He said that according to the hard work of farmers, the government should get the benefit of minimum support price on all crops.

Farmer Raj Singh of Dhasa village says that farmers do not get the cost price of their crop too many times, so what should the farmers who spend their life in agriculture do. The farmers are keeping their demands through the movement, but the farmers of 142 villages are also facing a major crisis for the farmers of 142 villages to continue farming as they are not getting the benefit of MSP.

Farmers had to sell wheat at a rate of Rs 1400–1500 instead of the MSP of Rs 1925 per quintal fixed. Under compulsion, the farmers have no other option but to sell the stockholders. The MSP for mustard was fixed at Rs 4450 while farmers sold it at a loss of around Rs 1000 at the rate of Rs 3500 per quintal. Instead of 2150 in millet, farmers had to be satisfied for just Rs. 1200.

Major Crops:
Vegetables including wheat, sorghum, millet, mustard and paddy are produced.

The farmers of Delhi reached the distance of hundreds of kilometers, seeing the farmers as guests. Ration or essential goods in their homes, every need is being met. If there are women and children among the agitators, then they should not face any problem, the people living in the surrounding villages are taking full care. According to Virendra Dagar, state president of the Bharatiya Kisan Union, Delhi, the movement has full support from the farmers of Delhi. They are being helped on any kind of need. Farmers are united in all kinds of problems including bathing, eating or watering.

Surendra Solanki, in-charge of Congress’s Farmers’ Cell, says he has support in this movement, though not going along borders. The government should give the benefit of MSP to the farmers of the entire country including Delhi considering the demands of the farmers. Agricultural laws should be repealed so that farmers can get relief.
