The market for electric vehicles in India is also growing rapidly. As such, taxi booking company Ola (OLA) has announced that it will set up its first electric scooter factory in Tamil Nadu for which it has signed an agreement (MoU) with the Tamil Nadu state government. Ola has decided to invest Rs 2400 crore for this factory. The company claims that 10,000 jobs will be created with the start of the new factory.
World’s ‘biggest factory’
According to Ola, this electric scooter factory will be the world’s largest scooter manufacturing factory. The initial production capacity of this factory will be 2 million units annually. This means that 20 million scooters can be produced in this year from this factory. Ola’s factory is expected to be ready within a year. The statement issued by Ola said that in accordance with the vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Ola’s factory will be an important step towards creating a self-reliant India. This will reduce India’s dependence on imports in key sectors such as electric vehicles, boost local manufacturing, create jobs and improve the country’s technical skills.
Export will also be in foreign markets
Vehicles made in this Ola’s electric scooter factory will not only be sold in the Indian market, but will also be exported to other markets of the world including European, Asian, Latin American market. The company claims that India will emerge as an electric vehicle manufacturing hub on the world stage.
Will soon launch the first e-scooter
Ola is preparing to launch its first e-scooter in the market soon and may offer it by January next year. In May this year, Ola Electric announced the acquisition of Ettergo BV, the Netherlands capital in Amsterdam. The company then aimed to introduce electric two-wheelers in the Indian market by 2021.
