Significantly, an advisory committee of the US government recommended emergency approval of the Pfizer-BioNotech vaccine to prevent corona virus infection. The eight-hour meeting of the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) Vaccine and Related Biological Products Advisory Committee (VRBPAC) followed a brainstorm in a vote to approve the use of the vaccine developed by Pfizer and its partner Bioentech in Germany. It had 17 votes in favor of Pfizer and Bioentech vaccines and four in opposition and one member was absent. Committee member Paul Offit said there was a clear benefit from the vaccine, but on the other hand, there were perceived dangers. Paul is a vaccine specialist at Children’s Hospital in Philadelphia. He said that the ability to benefit the vaccine reduces its risks.
It is set to be a major milestone for another milestone, said Ofer Levy, who is an infectious disease specialist and heads the vaccine program at Boston Children’s Hospital. Countries like Britain and Canada have already approved Pfizer’s vaccine.
“The approval of the Pfizer-BioNotech Kovid-19 vaccine today is a ray of hope in difficult times,” newly elected President Joe Biden said in a statement. We are grateful to the scientists and researchers who created this vaccine. We are also grateful to the scientists and public health experts who evaluated the potential and safety of this vaccine without coming into political influence.
