Kiran Mazumdar Shaw, a well-known biotechnology expert, said on Wednesday that even though the efficacy of the Kovid-19 vaccine is not yet decided, he is ready to be vaccinated. Shaw, the executive chairperson of Bangalore-based biotechnology major Biocon, supported the completion of the process from vaccine preparation to approval at an unprecedented pace.

According to news agency PTI, Shaw said, “This is an unprecedented epidemic and it is an extraordinary time to take extraordinary steps”. He said that there is a need to speed up the process of assessment and approval at the regulatory level. Significantly, Bharat Biotech, Serum Institute and Pfizer have sought approval to use their Kovid-19 vaccines in emergencies in India.

Shaw spoke of getting vaccinated without worrying about safety and effectiveness. He said, ‘Currently I am not worried about the safety and efficacy of a common man (from the Kovid-19 vaccine). I am more concerned about whether it will be able to provide me security in the long run. ‘

He said “If someone asks me if I get vaccinated, my answer will be yes, because no matter what it is, eventually I will be able to protect myself (from Kovid-19).” Let Shaw be included in the list of 100 most powerful women in the world recently released by Forbes magazine.
