People in Andhra Pradesh are frightened by a mysterious disease. One died of the disease and so far more than 500 people have become ill. At the same time, now investigation has found that the presence of heavy elements like nickel and lead in drinking water and milk in Eluru city is the primary cause of mysterious disease.
Health officials submitted the report to Chief Minister YS Jaganmohan Reddy here on Tuesday, based on the reasons discovered by expert teams of All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) and state and other central institutes. On the basis of the report prepared by AIIMS experts in the release issued by the Chief Minister’s Office, it was said that the cause of the mysterious disease was found to be nickel and lead.
Due to this disease, people started having problems like epileptic seizures, fainting, nervousness, vomiting and back pain since Saturday night. According to officials, so far 505 people have come in the grip of the disease, of which more than 370 people have been cured and 120 others are undergoing treatment.
The release said that the Chief Minister directed the officers to conduct a thorough investigation regarding the presence of heavy metal elements in the patients’ bodies and keep a constant watch on the treatment process. Apart from experts deployed by the World Health Organization, a three-member team constituted by the Union Ministry of Health arrived in Eluru on Tuesday and visited the affected areas to take samples.
Deputy Chief Minister (Health) AK Srinivas said that the sick people are recovering and there is no need to panic. He said that the full details of the cause of the mysterious illness will come out after the central agencies submit the report. Primarily, lead has been found to be the cause.
