The opposition had not fielded its candidate against Sushil Kumar Modi, but an independent candidate Shyam Nandan Prasad filed his nomination on Wednesday. Although he did not give the letter of support of the 10 MLAs required for nomination, Sushil Kumar Modi did not face any obstacle to reach the Rajya Sabha.
Significantly, this seat was vacated due to the demise of former Union Minister Ram Vilas Paswan. According to the schedule released by the Election Commission, the voting for this seat was to be held on December 14 if necessary. The task of checking the papers was to take place on Friday. Therefore, the Election Commission on Monday handed over the certificate to Sushil Modi.

He has been a member of the Bihar Legislative Council since 2005 and has now become a Rajya Sabha MP.
