PM Trudeau maintains his statement on the farmers’ movement
On Friday, once again Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau reiterated his stand on his statement on farmer laws. In response to a question, he said that Canada will always stand for the right to peaceful protest and human rights worldwide.
The PM’s statement raised objections from India and the High Commissioner of Canada was summoned. He had said that the remarks of Canadian Prime Minister, some cabinet ministers and MPs on issues related to Indian farmers are not acceptable in our internal affairs.
Canadian PM’s statement on peasant movement
Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau commented on the performance of farmers in India. The Canadian PM said that Canada will always stand to protect the rights to peaceful demonstrations. He supported Indian farmers in his statement and said that the situation in the country is worrisome.
Trudeau had said that there were reports coming from India about the demonstrations by farmers. The situation is worrying and we are all very concerned about our family and friends. I know that this is a reality for many of you. Let me remind you that Canada will always stand to protect the rights to peaceful demonstrations.
Will Trudeau’s statement affect the relationship between the two countries?
The Foreign Ministry said that we hope the Canadian government will ensure full security of Indian diplomats. Earlier, on behalf of India, there was an objection to the statement of the Prime Minister of Canada. The Foreign Ministry said such comments were inappropriate.
It has been said by the Ministry of External Affairs that it would be better if diplomatic negotiations are not misrepresented for political purposes. However, Trudeau’s latest statement could further affect the relationship between the two countries.
