Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla said on Saturday that the foundation stone of the new Parliament House will be laid with Prime Minister Narendra Modi at 1 pm on December 10 with Bhoomi Pujan. He said that on the completion of 75 years of India’s independence, we will start the session of both houses in the new Parliament House. Om Birla said that this building will have a seating capacity of 888 members in the Lok Sabha chamber, while 384 members will be able to sit in the Rajya Sabha chamber.

This is being done keeping in mind the possibility of increasing the number of members of both houses in future. At present there are 543 members of Lok Sabha and 245 members of Rajya Sabha. He said that 1224 MPs will be able to sit together in the new Parliament House and office premises for MPs of both the Houses will be constructed in place of the existing Shram Shakti Bhawan (near Parliament House).

He also informed that the new Parliament building will be in an area of ​​64,500 sqm and its construction is estimated to cost a total of Rs 971 crore. While presenting the details about the proposed building, Birla said, ‘The present temple of democracy is completing its 100 years. It will be a matter of pride for the countrymen that the new building will be constructed by our own people, which will be a prime example of self-reliant India. ‘

He said, ‘The cultural diversity of the country will be displayed through the new building. It is expected that on the completion of 75 years of independence, the Parliament session will be held in the new building. According to Om Birla, the new Parliament building will have anti-earthquake capacity and 2000 people will be directly involved in its construction and 9000 people will be indirectly involved.
