Dharampal Gulati, popularly known as ‘Dalaji’ and ‘Mahashaji’, was born in 1923 in Sialkot, Pakistan. Dharmapala Gulati, who left school midway, got involved in his father’s spice business in the early days. After partition in 1947, Dharampal Gulati immigrated to India and stayed in a refugee camp in Amritsar.
He then moved to Delhi and opened a store in Karol Bagh, Delhi. Gulati officially established the company in 1959. This business spread not only in India but also in the world. This made Gulati a distributor and exporter of Indian spices.
Gulati’s company exports Indian spices to various parts of the world including Britain, Europe, UAE, Canada etc. In 2019, the Government of India honored him with the Padma Bhushan, the country’s third-highest civilian honor. According to MDH Masala, Dharampal Gulati has donated about 90 percent of his salary.
