According to a statement issued by the Foreign Office, at the 19th meeting of the Council of Heads of Governments of SCO countries, Pakistan was represented by Andalib Abbas, Parliamentary Secretary for Foreign Affairs.
He underlined the imperative to create safe neighborhoods, condemning terrorism in disputed areas. Earlier in his address, Vice President Venkaiah Naidu said that the foremost challenge facing the region is terrorism, especially cross-border terrorism.
Abbas in his address underlined the importance of an eight-member organization for the sake of Pakistan for achieving regional peace and stability, developing close ties with regional allies through multidisciplinary contact.
He also stressed the need for cooperation, sharing of information and expertise to tackle the Kovid-19 epidemic. Abbas said that Pakistan sees the SCO region as an important link for regional connectivity and integration.
He thanked the member states for supporting Pakistan’s initiative to set up a Special Working Group (SWG) on poverty alleviation. This working group will provide an opportunity for exchange of experiences and ideas among the SCO members.
