The polling took place in Harwan area, 20 km from Srinagar. Even though this area falls in the Srinagar district, it does not seem less than a backward village given the basic facilities here. People here have been waiting for development for the last several decades. Amar Ujala’s team arrived in the area about 15 minutes before polling and there were strict security arrangements. The mercury was around minus 3 degrees Celsius and there was light snow in the area. J&K Police and CRPF personnel were ready even in the cold of shivering bones.
Polling stations were opened at seven o’clock in the morning and people started coming one by one. Due to the bitter cold, people may have seen less, but as the day passed, lines of people were seen at polling stations in the area. Ghulam Qadir, who reached for polling at Harvan Theed polling station, said that expectations are high from the candidates, but now it is to see what is done at the ground level. Meanwhile, 90-year-old Lala Khatana said that he voted for the development of his area.
Voted for the first time, the colleges opened nearby, then relief
Shakina Bano, who used her vote for the first time at Primary School in Gulkhan Mohalla Fakir Gujri, said that this area of ours falls about 18 kilometers away, but there is a lack of basic facilities here. Said that we are children of hilly areas here and we have to go far to college. If you open a college pass then it is quite a relief.
Strict security arrangements
Tight security arrangements were made at polling booths during the election. The Jammu and Kashmir Police and CRPF personnel were busy at every place. Only the person named in the voter list was allowed to enter the polling station after seeing the slip. Regarding security arrangements, IG CRPG Charu Sinha said that the CRPF had made strict security arrangements with the Jammu and Kashmir Police and other security agencies. Soldiers were deployed at every nook and corner.
Violation of Kovid 19 protocol
Srinagar. During the first phase of voting, Kovid appeared to be in violation of the 19 protocol at most polling stations. People did not even follow social distance. Everyone in the line appeared close. Apart from this, medical teams with thermal scanners did not appear anywhere at the polling stations. The same situation was seen in other places of the valley as well.
Violation of Code of Conduct at Center in Fakir Gujari
Violations of the Election Code of Conduct were observed at the polling booth at Primary School in Gulkhan locality of Fakir Gujri. Posters of a candidate and large banners were displayed on the walls inside the polling booth. When this matter was brought to the notice of the officials there, he came into action and all the posters and banners were removed.
