ISI choosing mound location and smuggling routes
Prior to terrorist activities on the international border, smuggling of goods including narcotics was done. These routes were later used for terrorist infiltration. After the border security is tightened at the border, tunnels are being infiltrated by digging tunnels in the vicinity of smuggling and infiltration routes.
Sources said that the tunnels are being dug in the area from where smuggling and infiltration has been happening before. In addition, the mound area is chosen for tunneling. The tip of the tunnel found in Rigal is also on the slope towards Pakistan. That is, this area is at a height while coming from Pakistan towards India. Earlier found tunnels were also found in similar geographical conditions.
