Bihar: One naxal gunned down by 205 CoBRA commandos in an exchange of fire that ensued in Mahuri village in Gaya district last night. One AK-47 rifle, one INSAS rifle and magazine recovered from the site. Search operation is underway. More details awaited.

According to the information, the encounter took place around midnight in the Barachatti forest area of the district, which is about 100 km from the state capital. In this action which lasted till late night, many bullets were fired from both sides. During this time, the whole forest resonated with the sound of gunfire. The bodies of three Naxalites have been recovered from the incident. Police conducted a search operation after the encounter early Sunday. Apart from the zonal commander of the Naxalites, three bodies were recovered. At the same time, an AK-47 rifle, an INSAS rifle and a magazine have been recovered. The Cobra Commando is a special jungle warfare unit of the Central Reserve Police Force deployed for anti-Naxal operations in the state.
